Boinc software requests admin rights

Hello,

After re installing the boinc software on a single older PC
(should operate WGC stuff only, using Win XP)
i found out that i can operate the software with admin rights only!

impossible to get access to the sw with an other "normal" user profile
with restricted rights!

How can i fix this, I dont want to leave the PC connected to the net with admin rights the whole time???

tnx for responding, laurin

Hello Laurin,
What installation package did you use? Normally you can install it as a service so that it does not matter what user is running.

Re: Boinc software requests admin rights

On XP you can either install BOINC under your account or if you like create a dummy account and install it under the dummy account. You will need to activate the dummy account whenever you start or you can just leave it running. The easiest thing to do is install it as a service as Lawrence suggested and then it will run even if no one is signed in.
Cheers

Hello lawrence, tnx for quick response,

I installed Version 6.10.58 but the installation runs through the procedure
without having the choice to set something execpt of the destination folder.

But i will try to install on an other more powerful machine with Win7 as OS;
this old PC is really too slow/weak for the WGC calculations, so my idea to use this old PC for this was no good idea.
Maybe i can use it as Home server in the future.

For the next system I ll try to install the SW as service as you described
i only hope the SW let me do this, we ll see.

have a nice day, bye Laurin
