I was running ubuntu on all 3 of them, though I've been dabbling with gentoo now. My server still runs ubuntu, though. It's got a nice package manager, making things a whole lot easier than redhat/mandrake/other rpm distros. Pretty much everything worked straight out of box, including wireless ethernet...a definite plus. My first distro was a while back...mandrake, though could never get it configured right so didn't go very far. About a year later I tried again with red hat, which became fedora...was pretty happy with it. Experimented with a few others but always went back to fedora until a few months ago when I found ubuntu. It makes for a nice beginner distro, I find. |

Main reason for me not installing ubunto is whilst is has a nice setup / works very well out the box, I don't know anyone who devlops specifically for it, this is partly the reason for stoping using redhat (never even bothered downloading fedora as it was only meant as a cut down redhat)
My first disto was debian... but that was many many years ago We could always start a linux thread on a windows only DC project ![]() |
