Re: Ultra-short task?

If about 5-minutes completion-time qualifies as an 'ultra-short task' for a known for-CPU-only task like SN2S-WUs, then I saw two or three such WUs. I recall the doneWUs each got a 'valid' valuation.

[00:06:03] Number of tasks = 8

It will validate fine. Usually these tasks have 48 or so jobs but this has only 8 which is why it went so fast.

Re: Ultra-short task?

Thanks for all of your information :)

Well, I was just wondering why the "job/batch cutters" produced such kind of very short WUs...

The program that assigns Vina jobs to a work unit estimates the length of each job based on run times for previous Vina jobs with the same characteristics. If no similar previous jobs have results in the database, it assumes a very long Vina job because if the length of the Vina job can't be reasonably estimated, it's better to generate a very short work unit like the one you received than to generate a very very long one.

Also, the final work unit in a batch gets whatever Vina jobs are still left for that batch and may be short for that reason (this isn't what happened for the work unit you referenced though, but it's another reason you could get a short work unit).

Re: Ultra-short task?

Thanks for the explanation, seippel. I wish we could have 1-hr-runtime CPU-WUs.
