This is a feature I really want:
----------------------------------------Like right now I am running HCC GPU only and it ran out of work :( I noticed now when I logged in and saw that last returned result was 3+ hours ago...what if I could put a setting like "if not returned result after [dropdown-selection-value]+ hours, send me anautomatic email." That would be great because I would get a signal on my smartphone that new message has arrived and I would have noticed immediately that 1+ hours ago was last result so I should remote login to my machine and perhaps select another project in the mean-time (like HFCC) while there are no WUs for my primary project HCC...for instance. Or perhaps even better still, an automati email stating "there are currently no work units available for the projects chosen for the "work" device profile. Based on your cache settings your computer will be out of work in xx hours. Projects with available work units at the moment are: 1. xx, 2. yy etc..."or something like that. That sounds useful, but WCG may not get to it for many moons. However, you might try asking over at BOINC, those boys love to write cool plug-ins like that:

Smartphone: (Same/similar question was asked last week) IIRC there's a BOINC app to monitor your clients. A message would have to come from the client(s) or an app such as BOINCTasks [running on one machine, monitoring all on a LAN], which allows specifying rules with actions [send you a message from your own mail e.g.]

Mails are send when no results are returned for 21 days [to those truly running set-forget]. An device profile option such as "send me message when there are no more "in progress" is thinkable, but it would be likely limited to once per day, and one time only. Spamming mailboxes or the client Notices has the effect of being repercussive (On me it has and led to removal of one project from all my clients).
