They are turning into one and the same, at least here. A lot of folks who work in retail won't have much of a Thanksgiving. The midnight openings are for the wimps now. The real competitors start "Black Friday" by opening at 8PM on Thursday. My neighbor who works retail has to go in after the store closes on Wednesday night and work overnight to set up for the Black Friday opening. They'll get off around 4-6 AM (hopefully) to go home and sleep and try to enjoy Thanksgiving only to have to be back at work at 8PM. Next year is only going to get worse for them. There's already news stories of supposed planned walkouts by workers to protest "Black Friday creep". If you get out into the madness that is Black Friday, don't forget to thank the person behind the counter who probably didn't have much of a Thanksgiving day with their family.

 Good Monday Morning Team Congratulations pramodp! Yes dkt, for me anyway. Having a great day yesterday better prepares me for this week whatever it might hold. I may be unusual in this regard but I hope not: All my kids, grandkids and, (while it is hard for me to believe that I have one) my great granddaughter will be here for Thanksgiving. It will be chaos with people all over the place, perhaps a dog or two, little girls running around screaming/squealing, minor conflicts, great food, lots of hugs, interesting philosophical and educational discussions, sweetness all over the place, a few glasses of good wine; and, when it is all over I will enjoy them all leaving as much as I enjoyed them arriving. I sincerely hope all of you have a great week as well! |
