Usually my BOINC agent happily ran in the background, downloading tasks, processing them, and uploading results. But having recently received a WCG email I checked my status and saw that I hadn't sent in a result for a month.
----------------------------------------Here's an extract from my BOINC agent log - I interpret this as there is no work to be done, which I doubt! Hi,
----------------------------------------Sorry for that. You did not post the top 30 lines after startup of BOINC which always have our greatest interest, which probably tells us the client is set to pause when there's more than 25% processing power needed for non-BOINC activities, which accounts for this line: Suspending computation - CPU is busy As to your client version, probably a typo, suspecting it's 6.12.33 which I think was the version that Ubuntu 11.10 had in the repository for installation. That client would understand the "too busy, pause BOINC". This line: This computer has finished a daily quota of 1 tasks Suggests that your client is only returning errors **, so it's down to 1 task per day. But, it could also be it's trying to fetch work that's not available on Linux per this line Fri 02 Nov 2012 07:39:53 GMT | World Community Grid | Tasks are committed to other platforms Think for the time being, you need to set the website device profile to *not* try downloading GPU work. Also check if there's other processes that cause BOINC to pause all the time. With System Monitor, sorted on CPU load and also selecting to see everyone's processes, you would see what is taking the power. Else, if you set the option "While processor usage is less than xx %" to zero, it would at least run BOINC with whatever spare cycles there are [My Ubuntu is set to 35% actually], but we need to first get BOINC to run work again. Lots of guesses edit: Follow this shortcut link http://tinyurl.com/3448g5 to visit the My Grid > Result Status page to confirm if results are at all returned with an Error status. If so, click on the Error link and copy/post the Result log content so we can see what the issue is. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 2, 2012 8:25:24 AM] |

Ubuntu repositories now have 7.0.28, certainly on 12.x and I think on 11.x as well. On one machine I am using the version from the repositories and on the other 7.0.29 as the tar.gz file running from my home directory. I have just reattached to WCG because climate prediction dot net is out of work at the moment and successfully downloaded a Say no to Schistosoma task on my Kubuntu 12.10 netbook. As is ususal with a new to the machine type of task on it time to completion is steadily rising at the moment.
Back to the point, I have my machine set to use at most 95% of cpu time and 100% of the processors. I also ensure keep in memory when task suspended box is checked but more because of cpdn issues than anything else. Dave |

Hi Rob
Thanks for your reply Yes it was a typo - 6.12.33. The virtual box line pops up as a yellow flag. You always ran it through a VB and had good results?
There's obviously 2 offending lines in the log leading to tasks not having lift-off: process exited with code 210 (0xd2, -46) </message> 11Initializing BOINC failed. BOINC error: 11: Old google, popped up this post at Berkeley: Problem [RESOLVED], well kind of... I ran memtest86+ four times without errors uninstalled BOINC completely and left it like that. I re-installed BOINC using Fedoras Add/Remove Software app and when I came to the point where I get to choose projects, World Community Grid was greyed out and on choosing that it says "This project may not have work for your type of computer."? I don't remember ever seeing that message before? Anyway, I chose another project, climateprediction.net and that one downloaded its files and have been running happiliy ever since... Facts and figures about my machine: Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU T2400 @ 1.83GHz [Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 12] Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx constant_tsc arch_perfmon bts pni monitor vmx est tm2 xtpr pdcm OS: Linux: 2.6.30.9-96.fc11.i686.PAE Memory: 2.95 GB physical, 2.00 GB virtual Disk: 39.94 GB total, 10.39 GB free What my pc able to run climateprediction.net but unable to run worldcommunitygrid? anyone? Often the case if other project run, but WCG fails, it's something with security but here it could be permissions. Propose a reinstall, with whatever the repo has on offer. Could be 7.0.28 which runs fine on Ubuntu/Linux. For the moment I'd set the Activity menu option to Run Always, till we find the cause as while you're at the computer, the client do anything: Wed 31 Oct 2012 16:44:28 GMT | | don't compute while active Wed 31 Oct 2012 16:44:28 GMT | | don't use GPU while active Wed 31 Oct 2012 16:44:28 GMT | | suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25 % Wed 31 Oct 2012 16:44:28 GMT | | (to change preferences, visit the web site of an attached project, or select Preferences in the Manager) Wed 31 Oct 2012 16:44:28 GMT | | Not using a proxy Wed 31 Oct 2012 16:44:31 GMT | | Suspending computation - computer is in use Wed 31 Oct 2012 16:44:31 GMT | | Suspending network activity - computer is in use |

Thanks for your detailed reply Rob.
I'm running VirtualBox on my host Ubuntu machine with various guests. BOINC is running on the host too - so I guess that message is just to show that BOINC is running alongside VirtualBox. I tried completely removing BOINC and reinstalling but still get computation errors. So I tried to attach to another project (Mikyway@Home) and that managed to download a work unit, which it's currently processing. So it appears to be an issue limited to WCG. Stumped! Danny |

I was running wcg on this machine in the past, but was limited on how many machines I could run for power reasons. The other day I had a machine go and have pulled this one forward until the main machine can be repaired. But since I reloaded the new client, I get no new tasks.
