Re: Rig Showcase

OK Guys... this is what I'm running at home:

My main machine - Intel P4-3.0, 1Gb DDR4, Maxtor 200Gb HDD, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, Radeon 9550 256Mb Graphics, Soundblaster Audigy 2 & Pinnacle TV card. Not to mention the very shiny Antec P160 case and Antec TrueBlue 480W PS:

Lots of cooling too. 120cm fans front and back, one of those big cross-board coolers and an arctic cooling hotrod engine over the processor... Hmmm! looks like I need to get my air duster out again!!!

http://img302.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1535324img7ne.jpg

This is my lovely new 19" TFT DV monitor (I'm watching the German Grand Prix at the moment) and my work Laptop - IBM Thinkpad T40, Pentium M/Centrino 1.5Ghz (processor rated same as P4-2.4 - score 164), 1Gb RAM, 40Gb HDD, DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo, Radeon 7500 Graphics, Integrated Modem, Ethernet, Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless:

Then the rest of my laptops...

3x IBM Thinkpad T22 - P3-900, 512Mb PC100 RAM, 20Gb HDD, DVD-ROM, S3 Graphics, Integrated Modem & Ethernet.

1x IBM Thinkpad 600x - P3-500, 448Mb PC100 RAM, 12Gb HDD, CD-ROM, Neomagic Graphics, Integrated Modem. IBM 10/100 Etherjet PC Card.

Due to the extra heat created by WCG and my lack of those fancy Laptop fan trays, you can see my solution for cooling is to just prop up the front with whatever is handy and then point a fan at them!!

All boxes liked by 100Mb Ethernet to each other and to 1Mb Broadband, through separate all-in-one Modem, Router, Switch, Firewall, DNS Server, DHCP Server.

Currently I'm switching between UD and WCG on some machines so they don't all run it 24/7... leaning more towards WCG at the moment due to current issues on UD.

Hehe... the simplest solution so often is the best. The underside of these boxes can get red hot! Even without the fan pointing at them, just letting the natural convection take room temperature air underneath them makes an amazing difference to the temperatures!!

(Patent Pending)

Re: Rig Showcase

I would like to propose a fancy marketing name for this unique solution of enchancing thermodynamic air movement for underside, intermodular cooling:

"grid intercooler" for laptops

(patents pendulating)
LOL biggrin biggrin laughing laughing

Ooo! Swish!!

I like it... I can feel a Joint Venture coming on between the UK and the Seychelles - I'll get some desk fans, you collect as many empty paper clip boxes you can find!!
