I'm beginning to think the 5450 is going to end up on the cards that don't work list.
----------------------------------------It seemed to run the earlier betas just fine. As the betas have progressed, pretty much every WU has been invalid. Here are the invalids (the only 4 I got) from this run: BETA_ X0000038190368200409181628-- 201209282038211_ 0 BETA_ X0000038190568200409181625-- 201209282038211_ 0 BETA_ X0000038190525200409181625-- 201209282038200_ 1 BETA_ X0000038190231200409181630-- 201209282038211_ 0 |

Ditto for the NVIDIA GTX 580 as out of ten I got, only four were valid on my Win XP I7870 RT- Do you have a Win7 machine you could move the 580 into just to see if you can get better results. That card should tear through these GPU tasks with ease

That card should tear through these GPU tasks with ease Hi Nanoprobe If you think it will help, I can install windows 7 on that machine. My other machines that have Windows 7 on them do not have big enough power supplies on them for me to move that 580 onto them. I suppose that I need to go ahead and buy bigger power supplies for one or two of them just to get ready for when the GPU projects go live. Right now they have 380w PSs. I am holding off buying GPUs (apart from the aforementioned) in order to find which kind performs best (best bang for the buck). After thinking about it, I will just go ahead and install that win7 on that machine and go ahead and order some larger PSs for the other machines; none of that should change. Oh BTW The valid work units (4 out of 10), ran in .22, .23, .23 and .23 CPU Hours. Thank You for your help. |

I had problems with the newer Nvidia drivers on my XP box too. As for PSUs, that is one place you don't want to cut corners. I've been slowly updating since January. I look for sales from Newegg, Amazon whoever. I look for at least 80 bronze rated and I prefer they be SLI/CF ready but that is not a must. I would guess your 580 would need at least a 500 watt PSU but my rule of thumb is to have a PSU run at or near 50% of it's rated power when it's under full load. That is where most of them are the most efficient and that gives you some overhead room in case you want to stick a second card on the unit.

I got that puppy on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and downloaded the latest drivers from NVIDIA. I fired up a job from GPUGRID just to test it and it seems to be going well. On the power supply front I will take your advice and go for a 650 Bronze or better (I have a Corsair AX850w in the above mentioned machine). I will get it in and install it on one of the other machines so we will be ready to get the correct GPU when the time comes. Thanks again for your advice. Regards. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Oct 3, 2012 8:25:11 PM] |
