Moving Boinc to a different Drive

I have Boinc running as a service with the data directory on the D drive and I just want to move all the data to the C drive. I am running 6.12.34 (x64). If I was running 6.10.58 I could just reinstall and change the locations and the migration would happen. With 6.12.34, all I get is a repair option with no chance to change the location. Installing 6.10.58 would be a downgrade and I would lose all the WU I have.

I can't find the file where the data directory is defined. Is it as simple as shutting down, moving the files, changing the (as yet unknown) config file and restarting? It would be great if someone could help me out. Thanks

Re: Moving Boinc to a different Drive

Stop BOINC, make backup of data dir.

Uninstall BOINC

Copy Data Dir to new location

Pull internet connection or ethernet cable

Install BOINC [6.12. or 6.10 pointing the data_dir address to new location [advanced option in installer] .

Check BOINC message log if new location is listed and work resumed.

Replug internet cable.

FAIK, in 6.10 there was no reinstall that allowed you to change data-dir location on the fly. There was some sort of migration from 5 to 6... too long ago to remember exactly.

Downgrading from 7 is with loss, but 6.12. to 6.10 is fine... no compatibility issue IIRC.

Re: Moving Boinc to a different Drive

addendum: Of course, when happy, delete old data dir data location. Of course also, if not in a rush, finish the tasks running, suspend tasks not started. If things go pear-shaped, no computing time lost, well there will inevitably be if this is a duo/quad/octo or higher. The tasks not started get reassigned, when expired or the server might think things were lost and send fresh copies... luck of draw.
