Re: Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.51

Had 26-valid and 1-PVal. That lone PVal WU had been stuck at PVal for about 2-hrs now. Wonder if the wingWU was stuck or his/her network was turned off for some reason. Anyways, no longer receiving any beta-HCC-GPU_v6.51 WUs here at my end.

Re: Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.51

The last two betas have run well on my end except for the increased cache, went from 15 (avg for 3 day cache) to 39 pages.
v6.50: 20 wus all valid
v6.51: 31 wus (25 valid 6 Pval)

[My system:2600k/AMD HD5670 with Boinc 6.12.34(x64)]

Re: Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.51

My former problem with stuck WUs occurred when CPU usage was set down to 60%. The betas have gone through well when CPU usage was at 100%.

For what it's worth, on Windows, POEM GPU WUs also get stuck when the CPU usage is reduced, but under Linux, they run just fine with CPU usage set to 60%. (I run them under Linux on two machines at 60% CPU). I think this may be a Windows, or Windows driver, issue.

Re: Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.51

@Bill P Two things to check.
1. Right click on BOINC icon in the tray and make sure snooze GPU is not checked.
2. Open Boinc manager and click on the activity tab. Make sure suspend GPU is not selected. FWIW I set mine to use GPU always.

If neither one of them is the problem then I have no other suggestion. I have found that mine won't start if I'm running any other GPU project, even if that project is set to 0% priority but since you said you weren't running any other project at the time I don't know what else it could be.

Re: Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.51

@nanoprobe..Bingo you nailed it, THANKS applause hugs

1. snooze GPU was not checked.
2. Activity tab had Use GPU never selected. I changed it to Use GPU based on preferences and about 2 min after I stopped using the machine the GPU WU started.

I have no idea how the Use GPU never got selected, fact is I don't think I've ever looked at or selected anything in that tab confused

I received 4 HCC Beta WUs and none were running. I checked my settings for GPU processing and "use GPU while computer is in use' was not checked. I checked it and the WU started, but when it got to the end of GPU processing, it was at 99.415% complete and it never moved. I did a suspend and a resume, and the elapsed time went back to zero. I aborted the WU and tried another; the same thing happened. I did see that one of the CPU WUs went into waiting mode while the GPU was being used.

Same problem here. Stuck at 99,415% every unit worked by Gpu. Any suggestion? I have to disable Gpu usage for now.

Re: Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer - GPU v6.51

Beta testing aims to identify problems before a project, in this case HCC GPU, moves into full production.

Thus [HWU]Melkor and others with the 99.415% 'hanging' problem should respond to this earlier post by WCG techs:
One of the things we are looking for in this beta is to get more info from users who are experiencing hung workunits at 99%. A couple of things that would be helpful if users who see this can provide:

  • Are you using the boinc CPU throttle? (Use at most N% of CPU)
  • Do you have a value set "While processor usage is less than <blank>" that is not 0?
  • Can you paste the last 3 -4 lines from stderr.txt? This can be found in the slot directory where the gpu workunit is running whcih is in the boinc data dir typically in ProgramData\BOINC\slots\. There are numbered directories in there and the slot where the gpu workunit is running should have the opencl binary.

nanoprobe's suggestion for hanging WUs:
Try pausing, set CPU to 100% then resume and see what happens.
seems to have worked for a number of users.
Another suggestion in an earlier thread was to upgrade BOINC from 6.x.xx to 7.x.xx
