Ok, I have been running BOINC Manager for about 2 days now, but I can't keep my laptop running at night, so pause the manager, close it, and shut my laptop off. The problem is, when I start my laptop again the next day and boot the manager, my projects (I have 2 running) are losing time from the other day. For example, on the Clean Energy Project: when I close the manager, I have about 4 hours of elapsed time, but when I start it back up the next morning, it's resetting itself to only 30 minutes. This is the same thing that is happening for my other project (FightAids).
Am I not closing the manager correctly? Can I not shut my laptop off? I don't understand why this would happen. I have lost about 10 hours of work doing this and am VERY frustrated, so any help would be appreciated. |

The Clean Energy WU have very long checkpoints. If you have not hit the next checkpoint the WU reverts back to the last one. If you need to shut down periodically like you are doing, I would suggest switching to other projects. They all have checkpoints spaced much closer together.

Try hibernate instead of shutting down, this works for most projects most of the time.

I encountered the same problem with CEP2 in the past. Be sure to check "Leave applications in memory while suspended" under the "disk and memory usage" tab of the Preferences panel in BOINC Manager, if you intended to use hibernate/sleep. This works on both my XP and Win7 machines.
I "manually" suspend BOINC processing before I send the computer to sleep, since, especially on my XP machine, it takes a moment or two for my LAN connection to be completely reestablished when I wake up the machine (and so BOINC gripes about not having an internet connection). |

CEP2 can be a real problem because of checkpoints 4 or 5 hours apart unless your computer is always running. It is easy to set your profile to run any project except CEP2.
