confused Screensaver needs improvements

Hi there!
I'm a new Danish user with a 2,5 GHz processor, and I'm glad to be contributing to this project. Overall it seems much more user-friendly than Google's Folding@Home and SETI@Home, and the user statistics of Folding@Home never seemed to work, so in a sense there was no point in submitting lots of work units.

Anyway, I just want to comment a bit on the screen saver. It's quite ugly, and furthermore it looks as though it's a real ressource hog! If I'm right, the screen saver definitely shouldn't be turned on by default (I've turned mine off to save CPU time for the actual program...) Why not make the screen saver more simple? Instead of a large, ugly bouncing box, I think you should make some smaller informative objects on a black background that randomly change location once in a while. Don't think this would be as CPU-demanding, either. smile

Just my two cents...

Re: Screensaver needs improvements

I'm seconding and bumping this old thread. The bouncing annoys the heck out of me. Even just getting the box changing colours in a psychadelic way or something to avoid burn-in would be fine.

I've been spoled on BOINC and Seti@Home :)

Hi Suddenly_Dead and welcome to the Forums.
I saw your Member Name and just had to see what you were posting
about!
LOL
Oh well no oddball stuff but you two do make a good point.
And I agree with you. BUT LOL
I think the work load on all the changes is going to consume the time
needed to make changes to quite a few of the lesser prioritized ones.
Like the Screen Saver...
Love your M Name

cool Re: Screen saver needs improvements

There have been several threads about the screen saver. I was startled when it first showed up on my computer. The thing to remember is that it is only neede if you select the 'Run only as screen saver' checkbox. Otherwise, I suggest changing the screen saver to 'Blank', which is what I use. Graphics for any screen saver can slow down our crunching.
