Plenty of people are running into heat and battery useage issues with the present "100% or nothing" setting. We should have an option to set a maximum cpu usage percentage anywhere from 100 down to 50-or-so percent.

If you have a laptop you should only run when plugged in.

My computer's CPU overheats and shutsdown after 10 minutes of use. The option to limit CPU usage would be great. Most computers never get 100% usage so they never overheat.

If that's the case then there is something wrong with your system, either hardware or cooling wise.
When I was running the older UD agent on the Cancer Research Project, I had about 4 machines running it 24/7 for weeks on end between shutdown/restart. They never overheated or spontaneously shutdown. Now, they weren't OC'ed. If you overclock your CPU, then yes, overheating of the ALU or FPU is a definite possibility. |

This program is going to attract average users more than the ubergeeks and that means the program - which lacks even the cpu load adjustment that F@H has had for more than a year - needs to be built for average users as well as hardcore modders. It is unreasonable to expect people to modify their cooling just to assist on this project. This program should possess at least as many load-tweaking options as those that have been around for years. |

Well, I am barely new to this project and agree with the fact that the program would allow one to set at MOST what CPU % would be used.
for example, set it to use at MOST 20% so the system never reached 99% by the agent. I've already sent an email to the worldcommunity and hope they get implemented it soon |

People go to site http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/links_addons.html.
As you can see it is a site of Seti@home.There you can download Threadmaster. With this you can set usage of CPU for any program. Folow instructions of program and in reg key where you set usage write the process name of Word grid (you can get it in Task Menager) and set usage of CPU for it. There you go!!! ![]() |

Thanks for the info. Downloaded and applied it and now my CPU usage has dropped from 100% to about 30% (average) .. which I can and is willing to tolerate. ;-)
