Connection issue

i have a pc that has 2 users set on windows seven. The boinc version is 6.10.58.

In the main user the boinc works perfectly but when i log off and log in in the second user, it is unable to connect to a world community grid client.

I thought that a single boinc installation should be able to run in any windows accout.

Should i install the boinc program again for the second windows accout.

Thanx for the help and sorry for the english.

Re: Connection issue

no need to re-install under the second user acct, but you should re-install using the Administrator's acct. by doing so it will install as a service which will start no matter who logs in

Another thing you can do is check the box to allow Boinc to run under ANY user account, it is shown during the install process. The problem with installing as a Service is that you CANNOT use your gpu, if you use one, to crunch with. Beta t4esting is under way now to allow you to use your gpu here at WCG, other Boinc projects already use them. Gpu crunching can be more than 10 times FASTER than cpu crunching! That means more work is done in the same amount of time!

Zigfried,

For what you want to accomplish, you need to uninstall BOINC and install again, per the instructions in this screenshot . Carefully read the screens, then opt for "Allow all users". The mentioned GPU calculation function is disabled when "Protected Application Execution" is selected, but better.

On multi-user devices you don't want surprise GPU computing to start [it could cause a user to decide to unload BOINC], so the default preference "Use GPU while computer is in use" is best left unticked.

NB: Standard uninstalling and then installing again will not loose any work unit data!
