Per the website update June 2012, http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33330 , you now can opt out completely from CPU crunching at WCG [and see extended idling, certainly see the WCG total contribution share drop big time when none are available.]
----------------------------------------Obviously this does not cover all prior requests of variations and how it could be done better... it's a step forward. All requests are logged, not necessarily acknowledged [which always gives more time consuming debate], so please do not revive, like the dry tears repeat one member did in past weeks after another member asked for a server status page and that one member inserting same in varying words in 3 other threads. No names, childish foot-stomping and annoying [or is that too honest?]. All get's read and if it is original and adding, put it in the "Suggestions & Feedback" forum, like Vasili was asked, one time only ;>) --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 19, 2012 10:31:50 AM] |

[and see extended idling, certainly see the WCG total contribution share drop big time when none are available.] Maybe over the short run but more "active" GPU sciences here may mitigate that possibility. Over the whole spectrum of DC, crunching is more complicated. Over the years I have watched my spreadsheet that records my configurations grow and grow in complexity as I need to record "project specific" settings. I like this change but others may find it difficult. Just like CEP2, GPU only crunching will require some thought and special configuration. ![]() ![]() |

Looks to be interesting if/when GPU crunching goes full bore at WCG. I plan on crunching both until I sell what I have. New builds will focus on GPU crunching. Small CPU but big GPU. Cheaper to build!

... Small CPU but big GPU. Cheaper to build! I'll drink to that, with or without a serverStatus webpage!; |

You can choose to not receive work for your CPU. You would do this if you only wanted to run World Community Grid on your GPU. You can set this option by going to My Grid -> Device Manager -> Device Profiles and select the profile you want to customize. Within the profile, select 'Custom Profile'. On this screen go to the "Processor Usage" section and set the option "Allow research to run on my CPU?" to "No". (Note: At this time we only have limited work available for GPU processing. If set your profile to not receive work for your CPU, then little to no work will be sent.) Regarding the note, I'd say that "At this time"..."no work will be sent". Period. Or am I missing something? ![]() |

Dataman also quoted the line from the OP "[and see extended idling, certainly see the WCG total contribution share drop big time when none are available.]". Yes, long as there is no Beta testing or production announcement for HCC, it's "No GPU work either, Period" i.e. you sussed it out ;>)

Sorry Sek, I didn't see this thread. This is the one that should be used.
----------------------------------------Has anyone sucessfully changed this setting to "No"? Each time I change it and save it, it reverts to "Yes" and still allows CPU work. ![]() |
