What is my 'host address' (BOINC on android)

I'm trying to connect up my smart phone to BOINC to see how it does. The first step is to input your host nickname, address, port and password!

The port number has automatically been filled in but I'm at a loss for the rest of the info I need!

Any response would be appreciated, thanks!

I have already got world community grid up and running on this windows computer and a couple of others. IDEALLY I was hoping to link all of the computers and my phone. However I have read that merging computer records can only happen with devices with the same operating system and processor type so I guess this option is out?

Guessing what your asking I Google'd some terms you provided and I suspect your asking about androboinc . alien 2

5. Fill the form:
◦ Host nickname is the name which will appear in lists and titles. Any name can be used, but it must be unique.
◦ Address is either IP-address or domain name of the BOINC client - client must be reachable via this address.
◦ Port is the port number the BOINC client is using.
◦ Password is... well... the password.

CHANGE it to indicate you are a RETURNING user and you should see fewer choices and ones that make more sense. You are a RETURNING user on the PROJECT, not necessarily with that pc.

Re: What is my 'host address' (BOINC on android)

Can see this working as a credit monitor, by now and then refreshing the project, but of course no one is expecting work to come through, should that thought have boiled up. Have though my doubts if the https hurdle can be taken... practically, the attaching may succeed, but then the troubles of a master file downloading may arise. Interested how you get with signing up at WCG, lipase, as this could develop into an FAQ "Use Android device as BOINC credit monitor" or similar. Linking the android BOINC manager to a regular Windows device might work... curious.

Yes lipase, are you using AndroBOINC or nativeBOINC. Those are the only two I'm aware of and don't believe either are currently supported here at WCG. I have been playing with nativeBOINC for a while now, but have not looked at AndroBOINC for quite a while.

Re: What is my 'host address' (BOINC on android)

I've had a go at following the link BSD provided in the first reply in this thread and for someone who doesn't know computers and wireless networks it is an ESSENTIAL guide to read! Here's the link again:

http://code.google.com/p/androboinc/wiki/HowToSetup

I was using Androboinc on my Nexus one phone but after reading the guide and exploring a bit more I gave up trying to connect the app to my BOINC account haha! Maybe next year it will be simpler and I will have another go

Thanks for all the responses

Jack
