[OK now]

Not sure if Windows update has caused problems with more computers than just the one I'm experiencing problems with or not but it's something to be aware of just in case....

Got an automatic update from Windows this afternoon. Since that update all my results on that computer have been either Inconclusive or Error (I'll paste error message below).

Computer: 32 bit Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3.

Error message:

<core_client_version>6.10.58</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
The system cannot find the path specified. (0x3) - exit code 3 (0x3)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
[17:00:27] INFO:Beginning simulation: 1990:240:1776017451

</stderr_txt>
]]>

I have tried re-booting but that didn't help. I suspended all work units except the one that were running and let them finish and report. Then I turned off computer and re-started. Once computer was up and running I un-suspended all the work units. One work unit errored immediately upon starting.

Re: Problems since Windows update this afternoon

Had no problems after updating my Win7 today.
Only thing that comes to my mind is the Windows malware removal tool update, maybe that kicked in for some reason... Maybe check out the log:
[windows-dir]/debug/mrt.log

Which project(s) are you running?

Re: Problems since Windows update this afternoon

If there are no more errors reported, the inconclusives might just reassure your computer is reliable again. If not, you might consider a project reset.
I'm also on cfsw-only, everything's been valid today.

Nothing in that mrt.log or the boinc log?

All mine were valid before the update.

Finding and interpreting those logs are "over my head" and I really don't care to spend time learning about them. I'm more the "set it and forget it" type when it comes to software. I didn't mind tinkering with hardware in the past but I've lost interest in that lately. Too many other things to do.

Re: Problems since Windows update this afternoon

Installing Windows update on another computer as I write this. That one has XP Home. It is also running only Computing for Sustainable Water. I'll see how it does overnight....

Re: Problems since Windows update this afternoon

Looks like the problem, whatever it is, is working itself out. The second computer never had a bobble after the Windows update. The first computer is now returning mostly Valid. Still a few Inconclusives but not a lot and no more Errors.

Re: Problems since Windows update this afternoon

Hello David_L6,
My update worked just great. But I have had varying degrees of trouble occasionally when I update without rebooting first. The reboot seems to present the update software with a clean software environment. When I get in a hurry, it almost always updates without trouble. Almost is a temptation and a lure. This last year I have always remembered to suspend BOINC, shut down programs. reboot, update, reboot then resume BOINC and reestablish any ebooks I am reading.

Do you reboot your pc's after they update? I NORMALLY do as soon as I see an update was done, some of my pc's are on auto update some are on manual update.
