World Community Grid is pleased to report that we are releasing a new version of the research application which is utilized by our Say No to Schistasoma (SN2S), Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL), and GO - Fight Against Malaria (GFAM) projects. This new version has two major enhancements:
1. Corrects an issue that would sometimes cause work units to be reported as errors when a Windows computer was rebooted 2. Changes the data returned by the research application so that we can reduce the redundancy required to validate a work unit Redundancy is one technique used by World Community Grid to verify that the results returned by your computer are valid. This technique accomplishes this by sending out two, or more, copies of each work unit and comparing the results to ensure that they match. However, for some research applications we can reduce the number of times that we that we send out multiple copies of a work unit by adding additional data returned by the research application and by using statistical sampling in order to ensure that the results returned are valid. This allows us to complete up to 80% more research with the same amount of contribution from our volunteers. Minimizing redundancy involves taking the following actions: * Start distributing the new version of the applications and monitoring them to make sure they are working correctly * Modify the work units that are sent out so that the additional data, mentioned above, is returned * Reduce the redundancy once returned results are validated These steps will take a few days to complete. We will update this thread as each step is completed. Thank you for your support, The World Community Grid Support Team |

We have completed the three steps above. Starting now, new workunits loaded into the system for GO - Fight Against Malaria (GFAM) and Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project will be set to run without redundancy.
There is a buffer of work that we keep loaded into the system. The workunits that run without redundancy will start being distributed on sometime after about 15:00 UTC on Monday June 11th. We will prepare Say No to Schistasoma (SN2S) once we are ready to resume distributing workunits for the project. |
