Re: Beta test for GO Fight Against Malaria (May 31, 2012) Issues Thread

Rebooted while 3 Beta GFAM units were processing, no problems in Result Logs, all in PV:
BETA_ GFAM_ xNIMR_ PfSub1_ 0024362_ 0056_ 1-- Win7 64bit
BETA_ GFAM_ xNIMR_ PfSub1_ 0024365_ 0079_ 0-- Win7 64bit
BETA_ GFAM_ xNIMR_ PfSub1_ 0024362_ 0151_ 0-- WinXP 32bit

My only comment is that the Result Log for the WinXP machine included "Quit requested: Exiting" at the time of the reboot, while those on the Win7 machine didn't.

Not a science app anomaly... BOINC is supposed to detect if the OS is shutting down and then orderly end BOINC crunching before the OS goes. That had been an issue under Vista, but was supposed to have been solved in later versions. Maybe not.

Noted, Rob. I should have added that both machines are running BOINC client version 6.10.58, althought there's the 32/64 difference. Also the XP machine has it running as a daemon, the Win7 machine as a user.

That latter bit is of interest... as user. Under W7-64 I've got it as service, in fact all my machines are service/daemon, by choice. W7 when shutting down often displays here that it is ready to force user app shutdown if you want to, but let it sit if it does. The extra 30 seconds speedier slower boot is not going to break my bank.

Re: Beta test for GO Fight Against Malaria (May 31, 2012) Issues Thread

I changed a while back from service/daemon to user in order to check out GPU processing, but haven't bothered to change back (after discovering that my GTS250 was incompatible with the Beta GPU units).
In the case of the Beta GFAM restarts, there was no user app shutdown dialog, so manual forcing wasn't an option. However, Windows Explorer and IE9 were the only other apps running. I've never seen BOINC or WCG apps listed in a shutdown dialog.
I did another reboot this morning while the final 2 Beta GFAM units were processing on the Win7/64 machine, again with no apparent problems (but both still in PV).
BETA_ GFAM_ xNIMR_ PfSub1_ 0024380_ 0240_ 1-- (this one during the final of 58 tasks)
BETA_ GFAM_ xNIMR_ PfSub1_ 0024380_ 0261_ 0--

No server status link.

All have gone out for initial runs, which means fixups for work units that failed are all that may trickle out. Generally the Beta's on our system send out all the work within the first 12 hours.

Thanks,

Re: Beta test for GO Fight Against Malaria (May 31, 2012) Issues Thread

I missed this 2012May31 beta party... by about 23hrs. Sigh... anyways, life's good, no worries here. I wish lady luck would smile at me next time and allow me to hit that elusive beta timing. Crunching on...

Better luck next time to andzgrid.
