Password is by default blank with *nux packages [at least it was for my repo installs of 6.12.33, 7.0.24 and .27]
Was wondering how attaching WCG as an AMS could succeed... one has to type the url. ![]() --//-- |

I run Ubu 11.04 (Natty) succesfully on older hardware, including Atom powered netbooks, if the OP wants a final ISO burning fling. 11.04/64 boots into early Unity, immediately disabled by logging out and enabling the 'classic' login (at the bottom of the login screen. ) Boinc runs fine in 1 gig of RAM under it. 2 gigs is good-er.
----------------------------------------BOINC manager downloaded from the original 11.04 Apps Manager seems to be currently 6.10.59. I have disabled all kernel updates to 11.04 since install some months ago, it ain't broke, so I haven't bothered fixing it. But will this defeat the HTTP error? It looks like a NAT/DNS problem?: Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php 16-May-2012 17:32:03 [---] Contacting account manager at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ 16-May-2012 17:32:04 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Message from account manager: permanent HTTP error "I'm very tempted at this stage to go back to Lucid 10.04" If it works, it works. I can confirm that /etc/boinc-client/gui_rpc_auth.cfg on my system is an empty file, so I assume that means that the password is blank. I have tried entering the computer name and leaving the password blank and get the message "connecting to localhost". And later, disconnected. If I use the ip address, it seems to just ignore it, continuing to say "Disconnected".
I had tried Xubuntu on top of my Ubuntu installation, prior to ditching everything in favour of Lubuntu, and it seemed to run fine for a while but then developed problems. This was perhaps because of having it on top of Ubuntu. I found the system not exactly to my taste, but perhaps I should go back to it and try customising it more. Currently I intend to wait for the new Mint to arrive. What I have heard of the Cinnamon desktop appeals to me. |

Do "top -u boinc" without the quotes in terminal. Anything listed? If nothing, like the core client / daemon is not running, though it was at one time, when you posted the event log. If not anything is listed in top do a "sudo service boinc-client start" in terminal to ascertain if it's bombing shortly after.

OK, BOINC core client/deamon is not supposed to use any much cycles. That's what the science applications do.
----------------------------------------So now, open the BOINC Manager (BM) whilst watching the top frame, specifically the boinc process, if it stays. The BM should self connect to the core client if it does not bomb. (suspecting the system is not auto-starting the daemon, which adding it to the autostart list will do) piccolo passi, report back, and we can move on to attaching WCG to the client. --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 18, 2012 4:54:21 PM] |

Aha, it's all little bits of a task, and they're disappearing as they are downloaded. I've never seen that happen before, because I've never had cause to watch the process so closely.
This seems now to be working as intended, so it seems that I needed to start the boinc-client manually. Now what, will this stick, or is there something else I now need to attend to? At least it looks as if it can be made to work correctly, although what went wrong I don't see. |
