What is the relationship between United Devices and World Community Grid? I understand that the grid software is all from UD but the projects seemed not to be shared. I know that UD has some cancer projects and thet is a topic fairly close to my heart. Could somebody please clarify this.

Both grid.org and the World Community Grid are running the Rosetta program to fold proteins. The proteins are supplied by the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, WA, USA. The ISB puts the protein data sets on their server and a grid will download it, fold it and return the predicted result to the ISB. Eventually, all the proteins will be folded this way. Grid.org has several other projects running as well, but WCG is just running the Human Proteome Folding project.
WCG has licensed the UD software used by grid.org and modified it slightly to get started with Windows computers. We hope to write our own Linux program this year. |

Yes.....they both run the Human Proteome Folding project.
With regards the Cancer project you can find further information here ....And before anybody complains about me linking to another project I would just like to say that I think all of the projects are equally worthy.....and the cross-project bashing (where it does occur) is both tiresome and counter productive. In my view ALL of the projects have their merits........so choose your weapon and contribute ![]() (anticipates a yellow card) |

Dear Vaio,
My intention was merely to find out if there was any relationship or project sharing... I certainly didn't intend to stir the hornets nest so to speak. In fact I didn't know there was one. I just wish that I could also contribute to the anti-cancer cause. Regards and Best Wishes Miro |

Hi c771077
I do apologise if my post was taken as a personal sleight.......it was certainly not my intention. I was just making a general observation.....in fact, to date....the tolerance of "freedom of speech" on this board has been a welcome feature. I guess I was just anticipating a negative reaction to the link I posted...as that has been my experience elsewhere. Again, my apologies for any misunderstanding. |
