Issue is back on the system that originally had the problem. It has also spread to 6 out of 7 systems. All these system were running perfectly until 2 days ago. The only thing that changed is I switched to HFCC and since Monday morning they have been downloading HFCC work units. No errors are flagged during the downloads. I had a system that has been running offline for the past 3 days. I attached it to the network and let it upload 15 results, then it started downloading 10 HFCC WUs. It downloaded the work units and then displayed "This computer has finished a daily quota of 2 tasks". it will stay like that for about 12 hours and then start downloading HFCC again. After a few downloads it goes back to the quota message. I have unselected HFCC to see if that changes anything. The one system that is not reporting the problem has never been switched to HFCC.

It is interesting that if boinc recommends version A then you should use it, but if WCG recommends version B then you should ignore it![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by astrolabe. at Apr 11, 2012 3:08:16 AM] |

I understand your concern but my facts are straight. The OP was using and having problems with BOINC version 7.0.25 and this is why I commented on it. BOINC version 7.0.25 is the current recommended/release version of BOINC for all main platforms. Some who upgrade to it from an earlier release version may experience problems with work fetch. The reason why is explained here.
As I mentioned in a note, those who only need "World Community Grid software" may download a customised older 6.10.58 version of BOINC from the link on the main WCG page. This is the preferable/WCG recommended version for those who contribute only to WCG and/or do not require the current release BOINC version 7.0.25 to support other BOINC GPU projects. I currently use BOINC 6.10.58 myself on my Linux machine but need 7.0.25 to support POEM GPU on my Windows machine. Opinions vary but personally I prefer the work fetch system of the older BOINC versions. This is not just due to unfamiliarity with the newer work fetch system, I have been using a 7.0.xx version on Windows since December and my opinion has not changed. However the work fetch change is designed to reduce server load not to suit my tastes so that's fair enough. High priority tasks running in earliest deadline first order is an improvement I appreciate though. |

The only thing that changed is I switched to HFCC and since Monday morning they have been downloading HFCC work units. After WCG has upgraded the server-software, the quota-system is completely different from before. You've now got a per-application quota that starts with 2 per application per core per computer, and this quota is only increasing as tasks is Validated. By running solely project A for some time and so suddenly switching to solely running project B, a computer can have example a 356 wu/core/day quota in project A, but starts at 2 in project B, and it can take multiple days before some results is validated for B and the quota for B starts increasing. It's therefore better to let project A continue to run for some days after enabling B, before fully switching over. Oh, and as is often the case, hitting the quota has nothing to do with the BOINC-version being used, so downgrading to the old WCG-"recommended" would have been just a waste of time... And of course, downgrading from v7 would have lost all work on client, so in most instances is bad suggestion at the start. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. I've noticed this when running single science queues as well. My suspicion is that there simply isn't any work available for your selected project and it's throwing a misleading message to your systems.
----------------------------------------When I was doing HCMD2 exclusively, I would see these messages with seemingly random amounts in the quota line. Every now and then it would download new work as it became available and the number would jump by the number of results completed but then return to the quota message on the next fetch. What it came down to was instead of saying "no work available" it would give "you have completed..." Add another science or three to that computer and I'll bet it downloads more work. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

I have used 6.10.58 with GPU 0n Einstein, Milkyway and Collatz with no problems, so I think you can rule that out.....in any case, do you think the Techs here would be setting up GPU NOT to work with 'their' version, 6.10.58?

There's no indication this is going to happen before Q4-2012 with a final stable 7.0.xx] [standard procedure of code auditing, stability ratings and security testing, before it's deemed fit for release to large corporate and other large partner contributors], in fact I've reported the first blocker for those using proxy that did jump on the first 'public release' of 7.0.25 [since 6.12.34], for which a test fix was posted.
My own 7.0.25 testing does not let this release pass muster in terms of excessive client-server connecting after offline periods and the good old "if this happens frequently..." task resetting intermittently occurring [which is great joy when running CEP2 in particular]. If you can live with those, don't let me stop anyone from jumping on the bandwagon of this "first 7.0.xx public release". --//-- |
