Re: badge reform

Will GPUs make all of the current badge levels/colors meaningless?

Short answer: no.

There are multitudes of threads discussing this very issue if you want more detail.

Pass. I have no interest in reading hours of posts of discussions /arguments. Some sort of summary, of the end result, would be interesting.

I do recall this: "We will also have to change the page so that it shows elapsed time for results run on the gpu instead of cpu time (for the purposes of recording 'run time' as recorded on the website, gpu results are awarded time based on the run time)." But even so, that doesn't address badges, and how GPUs would very quickly eclipse old CPU scores.

Edit: What's up with my post count? I have hundreds of posts here. Yet my count shows only 9.

Check your WCG accountName. You may have other accountNames which must have logged your 'hundreds of posts' under in. I'm not sure if accountNames are case-sensitive, but something for you to be aware of in your checking.

Also, if you've changed your username, that'll reset your forum post count (although they're very closely interlinked, the WCG website and the Forum are actually separate peices of software).

Re: badge reform

Thanks for the summary! So badges use Run Time, which captures only the CPU portion of the total GPU task time? Do I have that right?

And yes, I did change my ID slightly. I did not realize that would reset my count. That everyone for the info. Oh well. No biggie.

Re: badge reform

So any interest in pushing for these new badges with WCG big crunchers?
I already have 83 years done. Badges across all projects are a waste of time, IMHO.

I don't want to see any more effort than absolutely necessary given to badges - I would rather resources be devoted to developing GPU applications for all projects where feasible. A very helpful member developed the signature I use (thanks!, but I don't recall his name) and 'My Grid' and 'Statistics', together with the plethora of stats reports available give more numbers than one could possibly need/use IMHO.

Thanks to all the BOINC & WCG developers who gave us this wonderful software and continuing supporting and enhancing it.
