confused This is strange

My computer has been running WCG 16 hours a day since March. Yet, the latest result was sent/ acknowledged on March 23rd.

When I looked at the tasks, WCG was working on a task due yesterday, and also working on a task due hours ago...

I think there was a glitch or something, as this has never occurred before. Tasks overdue were skipped in the past.

Or weren't they?

Re: This is strange

Any issues with your internet connection? It works best when you have an "always on" connection that can send and receive results when it wants.

Are you running Boinc software? I have seen it working on tasks that were overdue in the past. Go to the transfers tab in Boinc and see if it is trying to send or receive work. Hope this helps

Also in your Boinc manager, under tools, computing preferences, and network usage, what do you have your "connect every" and "additional work buffer" set to? If these numbers are more than a few days, your computer could have trouble keeping up with the tasks sent to it. I usually set mine to 1 or 2 days

Hello robintel,
Yet, the latest result was sent/ acknowledged on March 23rd.
Time for you to start reading the Messages tab and checking Results Status page. We need a lot of information to understand the problem.

Re: This is strange

Ryan,

My computer has an "always on" internet connection that is working fine. As for the settings, they are just the default ones that BOINC set upon installation.

The Transfers Tab in Advanced View shows no queue.

As for the networking settings, thanks to you, they just got improved.

Thank you!

Robin

Re: This is strange

Lawrence,

This is most interesting. In the Results page I see two aborted jobs (the ones I aborted yesterday, as they were overdue). And two failed ones, due to some error(s).

This has not occurred to my desktop since I joined WCG.

Thanks for the tip.

Robin

Re: This is strange

Hi,

Diagnostics starts with information, which Lawrence asked for [message log and result logs help us to home in on a problem, through the process of elimination].

You did not post the involved sciences that had overdue/aborted and erred tasks. Posting the Result log of the Error tasks (click on Status column link), will get us closer to the issue.

Some tasks get infinitely stuck [loop and make no progress], if the processor time setting is not set at 100% (GFAM/DSFL/SN2S). Client default is 60% and Maximum Output preset profile is 100%. Usually a client restart gets these moving again.
