Hi guys,
I'm running BOINC (version 6.12.35) on a Linux machine (Fedora 16). Unfortunately some WUs of GO Fight Against Malaria are interrupted with the error "Waiting to run (waiting for GPU memory) frome time to time. Does anyone know where this error comes from and how to fix it? Thanks a lot for your help in advance. |

6.12.35? Never was a stable upgrade to the recommended 6.12.34: See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?all_platforms=1. If at all, 6.12.43 is the latest of the 6.12 series pegged for recommended state.
But, we get the occasional report on this waiting for GPU memory [it's the 2nd or 3rd in the last 3 months]. Here's the last discussion thread which was marked [solved]: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost_post,367725 . If the GPU function is disabled with the <nogpu>1</nogpu> in the cc_config.xml, you'd permanently tell BOINC to not bother about the GPU co-processor part. Being a Linux user, you're certainly pretty good at hands on with manuals, http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml where this <options> flag is described, but telling BOINC not to use the GPU while the computer is in use [local preferences], is likely a good step to stop these reports. Begs the question why a CPU only task that GFAM is, has to wait on GPU memory. Suspected client bug [BOINC]. --//-- |

It's a bug in the BOINC client version.
Temporary solution: Reboot your system. Definite solution: Install a newer client version. It should be fixed in v6.12.38 and up. |

Just for your info if the last set of numbers is an odd number it is not a 'final' release. ![]() ![]() |

Presume you talk about the middle of the 3 part number sets of a version as 5.10.45 was a final.
6.13 is a dev series, 6.11 is a dev series. 6.12 is either Beta or recommended [watch that news]. Uneven minor is very alpha. Now don't take 7.0.xx to mean anything. It's not odd or even... it's something that got pushed out to meet a few project's requirements (T4T / Poem specifics e.g.). Tentative client 7.0.xx adoption at WCG... quite a few moons into the future. --//-- --//-- |

Thanks a lot for your fast replies! :-)
----------------------------------------Well, the version number really seems to be a bit strange. Maybe the Fedora package was created using this version and thus it's a little buggy right now. @SekeRob: I wasn't able to find that configuration file on my system, unfortunately. @Crystal Pellet: Where can I get this version? On the BOINC website I can only choose to install 6.12.34 (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php) Strangely, this problem only occurs for the Malaria project. Is this project even using the GPU if possible? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 31, 2012 2:29:49 PM] |

Hello Gromobir
----------------------------------------You can find all BOINC versions here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/ Malaria does not use GPU. The only GPU here is a Beta for HCC and there is currently no work available. ![]() ![]() |
