The Supreme Court on Monday threw out a lower court ruling allowing human genes to be patented, a topic of enormous interest to cancer researchers, patients and drug makers.

Not sure what I think of that as if no money no effort but then again how can a company or individual patent something they identified but did not develope! Kinda like the first scientist to identify HiggS Bosons to try and patent it! Would they be able to bill for any use of gravity or magnetic fields !!!

Well, their reasoning is sound. The existence of DNA or even short segments of it is not patentable. If they come up with a process that actually does something, that process is patentable.

I see this as the only realistic solution they could arrive at under US patent law. It protects businesses that legitimately invest resources in developing something but leaves the basic information free to the public.

LOL--yes if the dope er drug companies had their way they would charge you for your thoughts--Oh God what if the govt.thinks of that sad Pray for Europe and America is next
