Tech question on GPU. I have 4 threads. 1 thread + GPU. 3 threads for WU will this be the way they will set it up?

Tech question on GPU.

On another computer doing Distributed Computing
The way I currently have it setup is 100% use of the processors and the GPU piggybacks on one of the CPU threads.

Tech question on GPU. I have 4 threads. 1 thread + GPU. 3 threads for WU will this be the way they will set it up to maximize usage?

Or will they only have one core/thread and GPU running at the same time? and other cores/threads are idle?

Hello brucegaylord,
I would not expect anything fancy. I would expect BOINC to run as many GPU threads as there are GPUs and as many CPU threads as there are reported CPUs. (Which means 8 CPU threads if a quad-core has hyperthreading.) This might cause a lot of contention and you might want to reserve a core for use with a GPU, considering the speed of a GPU compared with an all-CPU thread, but that is up to you.

blushing If I were running a GPU I would consider anything that slowed it down a waste of money and power. 3 quarks for Muster Mark! 3 cores active on a quad-core with an active GPU! Of course, this becomes iffy with a hyperthreading i7. laughing The rich have problems the rest of us avoid.

Welcome to the forum Bruce!

You can run them the way your are set up now or you can idle one thread and use it exclusively for GPU. Most people are reporting that idleing one thread improves performace for both the GPU and CPU wu's. You can use the 3 CPU threads for any project you choose.

( PS: In the futue please post GPU questions to:

That helps us keep them together.)
