I know I have brought this up in the past but don't recall the reason why we don't have a report unit now button.
I have several machines and this is a common problem. My wificard went out but I can still Ethernet the laptop to report. Both machines have over half the units completed and are getting close to ready. I have one connection but numerous machines. I need the ability to report units (if only for one machine) so that I can leave one with a live internet connection. The do network communication option doesn't work. Not having this means I frequently lose half a day or so in potential cpu time. Alternatively: why not have each machine download a unit from EVERY project so the list is longer but the cpu keeps going and the report destinations are different. Just a thought. I don't like wasting electricity. |

We have an Update button in the client, that's why. It's programmed to project a Vertigo inducing image on the screen if used too often, preferably never.
If you have only 1 internet connected machine, and all others on a LAN, than there is ICS in windows... channeling the traffic through that internet connected machine. Of course, if you need longer period bridging it's as easy as increasin either the Connect about Every xx days" or Additional Buffer/Cache value on the website device profile or local preferences. --//-- |

Oh I see. I guess because I only run WCG on my manager its just a list of one item and its not selected when switching tabs. I didn't realize I had to select it with the mouse to make the update button clickable. Simple misunderstanding.
----------------------------------------* I also understand that I should use this option as infrequently as possible. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Shinobi Gaiden at Mar 15, 2012 9:06:04 PM] |

Some of us 'micro managers' use it every day, but you are correct Boinc is DESIGNED for it to do its own thing on its own schedule. ![]() ![]() |
