[RESOLVED] Huge WUs all of a sudden

3/14/2012 10:30:13 AM Running CPU benchmarks
3/14/2012 10:30:13 AM Suspending computation - running CPU benchmarks
3/14/2012 10:30:45 AM FP benchmark ran only 0.031200 sec; ignoring
3/14/2012 10:30:46 AM Resuming computation

I don't know if this is relevant but the time in which I'm solving WUs has increased tremendously on my laptop since last night when I updated Norton and restarted. Could it be related?

Re: Huge WUs all of a sudden

Run the benchmark again after you confirm [in Task Manager] that except for BOINC applications, specifically those science apps that start with WCG [often only viewable when setting to few all user processes], nothing else is using the CPU, for that sure is inflating projected completion times. Mentioning Norton, go in there and set BOINC science application exceptions and a scan exclude for the BOINC data directory. This aggressive package is know to do the nasty to many.

Note though that, BOINC did ignore the test and would have reverted to the measurements per the previous test.

edit: Note that boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe are both not to use anything but maybe a minute or two per day. Some run rogue after long uptime, which is resolved by booting the computer.

Re: Huge WUs all of a sudden

I actually booted the computer and it's running better. It was interesting..."time left" was going up faster than the progress time was. now it's going down with every 'tick'.

this is what I see now:

3/14/2012 11:20:15 AM Benchmark results:
3/14/2012 11:20:15 AM Number of CPUs: 2
3/14/2012 11:20:15 AM 2357 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
3/14/2012 11:20:15 AM 5217 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
3/14/2012 11:20:16 AM Resuming computation

I'll go ahead and exclude BOINC from Norton. thank you for your help.

Re: Huge WUs all of a sudden [RESOLVED]

Is is normal for the "time remaining to count up? I have restarted the client twice.
I had a unit with 120 hours on it and it just kept counting up.
I am going to unistall this if I cant get it to work right.
If anyone knows how to fix it please help.
Thanks.

Re: Huge WUs all of a sudden [RESOLVED]

It's quasi normal but only until the next checkpoint of a task when the time/progress gets recomputed again. Some sciences you'll see the TTC increased a few minutes and then dropping down more minutes etc. In your case best check in Task Manager if the science is actually getting all free time or if another process is taking it all. Some tasks get stuck and just loop [we know the main cause and workaround fix for that].
