Sorry, we already have a discussion on this in another thread. Techs are looking at this for those that only want to receive a GPU version of a science. Before it's is needed, there's a long BETA to be run [for which there will be a BETA GPU option to be added as I understand it... to avoid surprises on that front]

You know, you are certainly free to do what ever you want. But, why would you give up on CPU processing? There is tons of important project work running only on CPU's, and that work never interferes with GPU crunching.
----------------------------------------I am just under 48 hours into GPU crunching, on a new monster of a machine, sporting twin Nvidia GTX580's with a sealed liquid cooling system. So, I can work on GPUGrid, Einstein, Milky Way, etc on GPU. But, that's three projects. If you count the WCG projects individually, then I am working on twenty-four projects , all (I hope) very worthwhile. |

Inefficient processing HCC tasks on your CPU that can be completed 6 or more times faster on your GPU. Better to use your CPU for other WCG or BOINC projects of your preference.
----------------------------------------The current BOINC no_cpus option if added to WCG configuration options would apply to all WCG projects, so it could not be used to exclude only HCC CPU tasks when HCC GPU moves from beta to production status. To give an example: You are currently crunching MilkyWay separation tasks on your GPUs. So what if you wanted to also process MilkyWay nbody tasks on your CPU but not separation tasks on your CPU? Currently BOINC and MilkyWay will not allow you to configure that option, you have to use an app_info.xml file to do that. [Edit 1 times, last edit by kashie at Mar 10, 2012 12:31:51 PM] |

....I thought it had already been stated that when HCC GPU goes on line, the HCC CPU will be terminated.....

Who stated?
They will continue to run in parallel on both types of processors until supply is depleted. --//-- |

Yes, that was my understanding also... both HCC CPU & GPU would run in parallel.
