Indeed thank you. This is the ideal developer post, one that lays out the facts and intention without promising anything by a specific time. The level of detail is very refreshing. I think the majority of people will be happy with the disruptions as long as they know there is a reason and understand the process.

As a preview of the performance of the GPU version, one machine that we have been testing on is a Win7 machine with 6GB RAM, a AMD Phenom II processor oc'd to 3.9GHz and an ATI/AMD 6870 graphics card. On this computer the cpu version runs in about 70 minutes while it runs in about 6 minutes on the gpu version. any preview of nVidia GPU performance? ![]() |

knreed,
----------------------------------------With that performance preview of 6mins, will we have the same fate as AfricanClimate@Home? or there are lots of WUs to crunch on? Any performance preview for nvidia cards? leaked reports on kepler cards seems promising. ![]() ![]() |

The way it runs is that about the first 30-60 seconds of time is run on the cpu, then it runs on the gpu, and then another 30-60 seconds of cpu time at the end. |

----------------------------------------Quadro 2000 = 192 shaders Kepler = 1000+ shaders Im guessing (kepler) around 1-3mins. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks Kevin.
I started the thread with the hope that it was one of the first steps to GPU, and you kindly confirmed it. Many thanks. ![]() |

Will the beta be announced with an opt in option from our preferences or will GPUs be detected and the betas run on there own?

Both production and beta are separate opt-in for GPU... no one going to get this unannounced on a computer.
