In case you haven't noticed the global announcement thread, there will be a 12 hour outage this Saturday. It is for network changes at the hosting site for WCG's servers. While this doesn't appear to directly affect the servers, there could be the possibility of connectivity issues afterwards. I don't believe this is a change being done by the WCG admins so they will be dependent on others for how this goes. Hopefully, things will be fine. If possible, try to check your machines before the change starts to ensure that any completed work has been reported. You may need to adjust your work queue to ensure your machines don't go idle. I don't expect that any of the server IP addresses will change as a result of this but keep that in mind just in case if you have connectivity issues afterwards that aren't across the board. You may need to update your AV/firewall software.

Good Wednesday Morning MOT Congratulations brown chris and Vuj!! Hey Gerald. Yes, I am being careful with the knee; it reminds me occasionally when I begin to mistreat it. I have taken out 13 trees to date. I have about 7 more to go that are clearly dead from the drought. Beyond that, I have about a dozen that still appear to be hanging on. I won't take them out unless I am sure they are goners. When I take them out, I chainsaw them into fairly small pieces and put them on my brush pile. At some point I will have to haul off that brush as it is illegal to burn the stuff where I am (though I may be the only one that abides by that law). Yup Keith, I saw that notice. Early in my career as a systems programmer, I used to estimate outages at what I expected them to take. More often than not, I was pretty close. Later, I doubled what I expected and so people were pleased when I/we finished early. I wonder what career stage the people that estimated the 12 hour outage are in. I guess I will increase my queues to 24 hours just to be safe. I suppose you guys saw where Obama was promising lower student loan rates. I guess that if students are too dumb to see that the government is borrowing money to do that and that the students will have to pay back the interest and principle for all of their working lives through our very efficient tax system, then perhaps they should not be in college. Oh well college students are not renowned for their long term thinking. Yo Dude Paaaarrrrrtaaa Everyone have a great Wednesday!! |

As for burning trees, RT, I go to the local fire station and give them 5 bucks for a burn permit. We have enough air moving through Monterey county so the build up of smoke/smog is not a problem. I have a dead pine that needs to come down and a living one that is encroaching on our neighbors horse corrals. I have another problem though, and that is the removal of an old driveway and concrete by someone who can do it.
