That is the problem....try downloading the latest ATI/AMD drivers...specifically the Catalyst software. Let us know what happens afterwards.
----------------------------------------Edit: If I'm not mistaken, they are on version 12.1 right now. Most new systems have Catalyst installed already and many people install it when they load the drivers for the first time. I'm not sure how you installed your card, but I would load these latest drivers and also install the SDK that is an option to install with it. Some projects require the newest versions. Older versions work with most of the non-OpenCL projects, but you would have to do further research on what the oldest you could go still is. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Feb 29, 2012 2:07:27 AM] |

One of the first things I do after installing new hardware is to update the drivers and also any related software.
----------------------------------------I have the latest Catalyst driver AMD Catalyst 12.1 I just ran it again and it says I have the latest driver. I checked to see if I had the current driver It says I have version: 8.930.0.0 dated 12-5-2011 but I don't see that listed on the Asus website. Both of these drivers are available for my card according to the website. Version 8.861 8_861_Asus_Vista_Win7_WHQL.zip ASUS VGA card display driver for Windows Vista/7 (32/64 Bit Edition) 2011.12.26 update and Version 8.84.9 ati8849_Win7Vista3264bit.zip ASUS VGA card display driver for Windows Vista&7 32/64bit 2011.05.11 I have no idea what the difference is between the WHQL and the 3264bit.zip versions but it would seem that the latest version, the 8.861 would be the latest. And yet, I have version 8.930 installed. So where did that come from? Anyway, I look forward to resolving this issue. One more thing. I ran GPU-Z. Hope this all helps. ![]() [Edit 6 times, last edit by Nevada Bob at Feb 29, 2012 5:56:23 AM] |

Proprietary Catalyst drivers such as those from hardware vendors or Microsoft do not always have the OpenCL or CAL component necessary for BOINC GPU projects. Notice how the OpenCL box in GPU-Z is not ticked. You could try installing ATI/AMD Catalyst drivers that include Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) section downloaded from AMD.
HD 6770 lacks double precision capability and so will not be able to be used on MilkyWay@Home. |

I went here:
http://developer.amd.com/sdks/AMDAPPSDK/downloads/Pages/default.aspx Downloaded and installed: AMD-APP-SDK-v2.6-Windows-64.exe (208.8 MB) It installed several SDK files for APP. I thought everything would be fine. I rebooted. Ran GPU-Z and got the exact same result. Although the download said it was installing OpenCL. It is not installed. This is getting frustrating. But at least we are getting closer to identifying the problem. Thanks all so far. Don't give up yet. |

Sure you have the same issue as I have... the OpenCL box is not ticked and the drivers are OEM customized, so ATI wont allow to install theirs. Request is in with HP to do something about it as OpenCL is a requirement for the hopefully soon to appear GPU ported HCC1 app [and still 6.10.58 is to be able to handle the OpenCL for NVidia/ATI Stream as it's compiled into platform specific science apps for this first try at GPU crunching]

The problem with installing the SDK separately to the Catalyst drivers is sometimes the SDK requires a certain order of installation. It often works installing the SDK after the Catalyst driver but not always. It depends upon the Catalyst driver version installed. The SDK may require the latest APP runtime files from the Catalyst APP version. In which case you probably need to install a Catalyst 12.1 version that includes APP section after you have installed the SDK.
The majority of BOINC users are better off installing Catalyst drivers that already have the APP section included. Then you are assured of having the correct APP runtime files. SDK is best left to developers. |

The SDK drivers are not listed in the Control Panel.
Should I remove them? Just leave them. GPU-Z still after another reboot, has OpenGL etc unchecked. However the Catylst Control Center says I have OpenGL. Should I remove anything? I'm interested in the thoughts of all participants from this thread. ![]() |

There's OpenGL and OpenCL ... one letter but a big difference.

Opps your right. I glossed over that part.
----------------------------------------GPU-Z says I do not have OpenCL. For parallel computing. Catalyst says I have OpenGL. For Graphics. Thanks. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Nevada Bob at Mar 1, 2012 12:56:03 AM] |
