I have a task from project GFAM that has stopped running with a message in the task list saying:'Waiting to run(waiting for GPU memory)'.
----------------------------------------I tried suspending and resuming. I also tried changing the preference file to no avail. There are no GPUs on this system. This PC is an HP Pavilion m7690n running Windows 7 with all the latest maintenance installed. How can I tell the task not to worry about GPUs ??? Hmmm, that's I think the second report of a task stopping with that message on WCG because of GPU memory waiting. My prior suggestion was to disable the GPU use entirely by adding an option line to the cc_config.xml, but that obviously would apply to all projects. Don't think word came back if that [temp] solved the issue.
BTW, What does the local preference box "Use GPU while computer is in use" do if you tick that? --//-- |

Which [exact] client version are you using BTW? [99% of the problem reports omit this, whilst its an essential piece of knowledge]... found a bug report for this issue and a fix, which requires to up the point release to a non-recommended version.

I tried that without success and without any visible effect in the task list or message file.
One would think that the code (6.10.58) knows from the start that there is no GPU on the system regardless of whether the local preference file says to use the GPU or not. After all there is a message at startup saying:"No usable GPUs found". Should I just cancel this task or is there a way to clear this up? Perhaps restarting WCG with GPU processing enabled? Perhaps it is not worth the effort to chase this down further? |

...try a re-boot, that seems to cure a lot of stuck WUs....

Yes, restart to client or the computer, with that GPU option ticked.
If this does not resolve, fetch 6.12.43 which has the permanent fix, so is said (running a VM on that machine?). Since you did not reply to the "exact", here's the 32 bit version link http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_6.12.43_windows_intelx86.exe which handles any 64 bit science app just fine. Let us know if it reoccurs. --//-- |

Sorry our updates seem to cross out of sequence.
Here is the "exact?" code level from start up messages: 03/03/2012 7:32:27 AM Starting BOINC client version 6.10.58 for windows_intelx86 |

OK reboot and restart of WCG with GPU option ticked fixed this problem.
Many Thanks for the help. |

Do I smell GPU-aware HCC beta in the air and about to be served to the GPU-WU-hungry WCG-crunchers? Nah, that was just me and my GPU-primed imagination, but the lines shown below is a product of my stdoutdae.txt file and not of any of my imagination
