Appologies if this is in the wrong forum. First time poster.
----------------------------------------I installed the thing at the begining of the month and a few days ago I had the idea to expand my cache to 10 days since i like to see a big list. It's a ... good computer I'm referring to, and it does 8 tasks at once. the other 3 devices only do 2 at once. so this desktop that does 8 at once got a huuuuuuuge list. problem is a lot of the things i'm computing are now "Running. High Priority". And i'm looking at it helplessly as it's Running-High Priority a file due on he 4th of march while a file that's due on February 25th is sitting there at 50% waiting to run. will I miss the deadline and get a "too late" because my cache is too big? ----------- Any miscelaneous advice on how to not hit any "Too Late" results? My devices are running 24/7. There's a bulk of FAAH's due on 26th that I'm also worried I'll miss. Thank you for your help. Robokapp Edit: further reading the forums gave me the idea to manually suspend some and now it's working on the early files. Looks like i wont miss my deadline. I assume having the cache at 10 days is a bad idea? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Robokapp at Feb 24, 2012 9:18:49 AM] |

Hello Robokapp,
The only reason for a very large cache is a long trip with no internet. If your cache is larger than the due time for a project, you will see all the quirks in the BOINC scheduler algorithm, which is modified with each major release. I suggest that you keep a cache of no more than 2 days. 10 days pretty much guarantees frustration.Lawrence |

Yes... big caches act funny (unfortunately , not haha funny). I only do it when I'm trying to get hard to get WUs (like DDDT2). I don't know if your closer due WU will expire. What I did in a similar situation is baby sit the humungous list: I put all the WUs in the "waiting to run" list in suspend status and just start manually "un-suspend" the WUs in the correct order. This is very tiring and needs to be watched so that your computer doesn't run out of work.
----------------------------------------Lot of luck. CJSL |

Humongous lists slow down BOINC, which is why the "Show only active tasks" button was created in the BOINC Manager. This can work so bad that the BM looses connection because BOINC core client is too busy managing it, few cycles to spare to update the GUI. ;P

Also thank you for your help with the cache length. I set it to 2 days and I'm babysitting it out of this mess ![]() |
