Hi, I have a different computer used by the family and am trying to get it to install so that the WCG BOINC client will start on it's own, but not the taskbar icon. Our family has a bad habit of deleting random desktop icons and asking where they went or closing tray icon programs and, once again, wondering why it's not open anymore.
Any suggestions? |

Uninstall and Install again as service [protected application execution] AND tick box in options, not to start the BM at sign-in.
------------------------------------------//-- edit: Of course you can set the BM exit option to remember your decision to leave the service running. Then next time your family exits BOINC Manager, it wont ask to stop the core client. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 19, 2012 5:34:17 PM] |

The best that I have found (at least on Windows XP) is to go to the Control panel, Taskbar and Startmenu and on the Taskbar tab, select [Customize] behind the "Hide inactive icons" and set the BOINC manager icon to "Always hide"...Any suggestions? Can't check right now if that option is still in Windows 7 (and give a rodent's posterior if it is in Vista). Ralf |

The Best... until the BM feels like popping up a message ;>)
In W7 it's "Hide icon and notifications" and still there will be pop-ups at times such as when there are BM to core client connect problems, so BEST to me is not starting the BM in the first place at sign in and the one who manages BOINC to let her/him do the launch manually. --//-- |

The Best... until the BM feels like popping up a message ;>) Well, there is simply no PERFECT solution...In W7 it's "Hide icon and notifications" and still there will be pop-ups at times such as when there are BM to core client connect problems, so BEST to me is not starting the BM in the first place at sign in and the one who manages BOINC to let her/him do the launch manually. But that isn't likely what the OP wants. BOINC\WCG just should be running in the background, doing it's thing(s), but the normal users should not get a chance to mess with it...Ralf |

hmmm, well my dear TPCBF, an install as I recommended takes care of that... my first post / reply in this thread ;>)
Pichu0102, Here's a screenshot of the install sequence. In your case you don't want to tick the "allow all users" in the second frame: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q210/Seker...61045InstallerScreens.png . Uninstall and reinstall [required to get the settings right] will not loose you any work in progress [lest Murphy visits unannounced]. Set work fetch to no and finish any work in the queue will prevent that for sure. --//-- |
