very short tasks

Getting some tasks that finish in between 3 and 10min (0.05 to 0.14 hours). Is there a problem?

The project is ending.
Those are the grand-grand parents tasks which should be very short.

Re: very short tasks

No, they just have few and easy to compute positions in them as left overs at the tail end.

Today had a GFAM job that took my host 0.01 hours and the wingman 0.14 hours. Got validated for 3.9 credits or 390 per hour... love those :D

Re: very short tasks

Hmm - seems to be the same phenomenon as reported here One position at a time being processed.

also here

Might be something to interest the technical team...

Re: very short tasks

or another way to get into the 100,000,000+ results returned mark (which we've now achieved...)

Re: very short tasks

Would be unprofessional if done with that purpose **. Personally, I'm not sure if those are all children of children of children, or just 1 parent that after it ran, completed few positions, and the tasks chopper set to divvy the remaining positions out by e.g. doing 10 out of 100 complete, stick the 90 remaining in 9 more tasks. Shortest the time span it takes from first to last position in a batch. But, until the tech give a hint, we're just the armchair conspirators. Not had a single failing of the few passing through :D

--//--

** Looking at HCMD2 projects' 100K plus results to validate today, the least WCG needs is adding more pressure on the transitioner/validator tandem.

Re: very short tasks

It has crossed my mind [then dismissed it] that the techs are testing the system to see it's resilience for those 5 minute GPU tasks that are only allowed to be at 4 per host and how fast they can build and transition them around the BOINC server modules. Certainly the result rankings are having a little shakeup through those crunching on this science :o)
