When I login to the site there is no lock visable on the bottom of the Internet Explorer until I get to the stats page. So this means my user name and password are being sent in the clear? This is my understanding of how security works. What is are your thoughts on this?

Dusty,
The lock at the bottom of Internet Explorer is highly misleading. It tells you if the page you are currently on was encrypted or not. It does not tell you whether your next round of communications with the website will be encrypted or not. In fact your username and password are encrypted when they are sent to the server. You can see this by looking at the URL used after you submit you username and password. When the next page returns you will see that the URL starts with https and that the lock is visible. |
