No I probably won't because I'm also interested in Climate Prediction, ITER, muon@home and Einstein@home. I also try to work mainly on european projects and, as a French, on the too rare french projects. Stupid patriotism ? No I'm just trying with my little means to counterbalance an european underinvestment in science and development. You could crunch WCG alongside those projects... Yes, crunching WCG projects is an international endeavour; particularly as all of these issues cross country/continental lines.

ENDYMION IV, When HCMD2 ends, and before HCMD3 begins (if there will ever be one) hang around and participate in some other projects. If you really can't hang around for a European project to turn up here you might want to have a look at Ibercivis,
http://www.ibercivis.net/ (en) http://www.ibercivis.es/ (es) There are other projects based in Europe too, http://www.rnaworld.de/ http://www.malariacontrol.net/ http://boinc.fzk.de/poem/ ... This list shows some more projects with locations. Fuller list but without locations, http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=boinc_status I would still suggest you keep WCG as a backup project, as it tends to be up most of the time - other projects, not so much. While I support European projects too, understand the funding crisis, and share your concerns about the lack of a European project, IBM's WCG is global and did facilitate HCMD2. The other good research projects are also worth supporting, and it's not as if any potential benefits will be excluded from France! |

For my-self, the World Community Health is the most important reason for contributing to WCG projects, regardless of the continent where the scientists are located.
----------------------------------------I can understand some kind of research patriotism but the World is my country and I consider every person living on our planet as my "country fellow". Hunger, diseases, sustainable energy production are crucial reasons for participating to grid computing projects whatever for country or region is initiating a project. Enjoy crunching for the Community, Yves |

ENDYMION IV , since grid admins have to share resources fairly across WCG projects, think about that when you crunch more a project that you "dont like", more resources go to the project you like

I totally agree with you and you summed my thought much better than I did. For instance, I crunch on Ibercivis because there is very few spanish research and my crunching could help. I crunch also on Climate Prediction of worlwide concern. And on muon because I'm interested in. I also try to balance my interests and common concerns. Best regards |

darn, and I was hope to at least get a 'silver' badge for this one.
oh well, I only recently discovered boinc and WCG, so I can't complain as I came to the party very late. |

There will be a good set of offspring coming once these late parent batches from about 2383 to 2397 get through... that is of course unless these were the ultralites kept for last.

We have run out of a regular supply of work for the project. There will still be periodic work available as results returned generate children, however, this will not be a regular supply of work. Here is a breakdown of the workunits that are currently being worked on by our volunteers:
----------------------------------------
As the results are returned for these workunits, additional descendents will be generated as needed. However, the rate of creating these descendents will drop quickly. It will be a couple of weeks yet before all the work is finished. [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Feb 13, 2012 2:16:15 PM] |
