For some time I am getting failures with the Clean Energy Project immediately at start-up. Anyone else seen this behaviour? I have tried reinstalling WCG/Boinc software but no change

Hi,
Is this somehow related to a previous thread, https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,31928 where you reported errors on multiple sciences including CEP2? This instant failing and fail entry in result log at start smells like access being blocked. At start a CEP2 tasks has a zip file expanded that contains some 6600 reference files into a /slots/x directory. One for each job, increasing by 1 for each open task [started or waiting to resume]. I've got CLAMAV running and set an exemption for the BOINC Datadir. Have been unsuccessful in implementing SELinux or UFW [always end up all incoming traffic getting blocked, the sorting of rules a major pain with latter], so am not of big help on this. --//-- |

Reboot, memtest showing no problems and the problem disappeared. Only strangeness I've found is the following:
[nsmeds@slickers2 boinc]$ ls -ld slots/? drwxrwxr-x 4 boinc boinc 20480 Jan 16 17:59 slots/0 drwxrwxr-x 4 boinc boinc 24576 Jan 16 18:56 slots/1 drwxrwxr-x 2 boinc boinc 20480 Jan 16 19:03 slots/2 drwxrwx--x 4 boinc boinc 12288 Jan 16 18:10 slots/3 drwxrwxr-x 2 boinc boinc 24576 Jan 16 19:09 slots/4 drwxrwxr-x 4 boinc boinc 20480 Jan 16 18:07 slots/5 Changed perms for slot/3 to be consistent and we'll see if everything has fixed itself now??? |

That may have been the issue. Normally slots in excess of the requirement are deleted by BOINC. In case e.g. a running task is paused to let another ahead, in your case slots/6 would be created, but then if any of the slots/0 - slots/5 finish then letting the paused task to continue, any of these slots would be spare and get deleted [the exact sequence escapes me]. What I'm saying is, that you may manually allign them, but next time it will be undone.
----------------------------------------Don't known but maybe I'll find a place where the permissions are documented [think I've seen it somewhere]. At least on my Ubuntu 11.10 it's for all 8 slots the same and errors if at all are signal 11, heartbeat fails [a BOINC problem]. They are using your ls -ld slots/? drwxrwx--x Yours are different except for slot 3. --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 16, 2012 8:22:57 PM] |
