For BOINC, yes, in that the connection counter will signal that server and client are out of step. If you can backup the BOINC data directory before doing the system restore, then put back the backup whilst *disconnected* from the internet. Make sure to stop the BOINC client boinc.exe service/process before doing so. Reconnect to the internet only when you're happy that all is back in place. Of course, if you first run all the tasks in queue to completion [setting the work fetch to *no new tasks* for the time being], then you wont have any of these worries. The project will reset after the restore and fetch new work.

as the title states, i'm thinking of restoring my computer cause of Microsoft problems. so right know i'm wondering if this will cause any problems to my BOINC or any projects i'm doing 'Restoring' a pc generally means using the cd/dvd that came with the system and 'restoring' it back to factory new condition, so YES you WILL lose everything you have done up to this point if that is what you mean! The best idea is to either abort all taks from all projects or to set each project to No New Tasks and finish them and then do the 'restore'. Obviously finishing the tasks is preferable but each project can handle some aborted tasks with no problems, the tasks just get sent out to other pc's for them to crunch. Follow SekeRob's directions if you wish to save your Boinc settings, otherwise you will have to start all over again!!! ![]() ![]() |

There's the little extra work annoyance or the "created a new device" annoyance. My approach [which many follow when rebuilding a system], ensures that the same device ID remains assigned, your statistics continuing to build for the same host/device.
-Backup datadir [location printed in message/event log at start] when BOINC is fully exited/stopped. (3 minutes if using USB stick) -Rebuild system up to where BOINC will be installed -Restore the BOINC datadir backup to where it was. (2 more minutes) -Install BOINC and point it in advanced options where the datadir is [often BOINC finds it when restored backup is in default location such as C:\ProgramData\BOINC. When upgrading a rig you endup with a new device. I mean reformatting an HD to install a new OS or changing the HD. This is why I have 36 registered devices (sometimes with the same device name) but in reality only 21 exist today. Frankly who bothers. Except if your target is to have the rig in Boincstats with the highest absolute scores then you need to keep your device active otherwise you will start your rig stats from zero after an OS fresh install with HD format.
