Two pretty old PCs

I have two old PCs (Compaq Pentium IIs with 256 mb memory) that I am willing to have running on World Community Grid projects, but it seems that they can't complete the tasks in the time allowed. Are there "smaller" tasks that they might work on, or can the deadlines be extended. Shame to have them sitting there doing nothing...

Thanks.

Re: Two pretty old PCs

In my opinion they are not worth running for the electricity you'll have to pay but you could limit them to the Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy 2 project and they would earn a few points.

You quoted his email, which defeats the purpose!

Also, HCMD2 is close to useless, because WCG introduced a bug affecting P3 and previous machines and have never fixed it.

Re: Two pretty old PCs

Computing for clean water is also a good project for old pcs.

I crunch C4CW and HCC on my P4s and atoms.

First I've heard of it, but I had to shut down my PIIs after Winter (great room-heaters) so records are long-gone.

How did this problem manifest itself?

Re: Two pretty old PCs

I crunched on my Asus EEEpc for a while, but the output was only of technical interest, in that there was 'some.' Given that every contribution is better than no contribution our friend must keep his PII's, and hope for a couple of new boxes for his birthday. The current CPU's are capable of astonishing levels of output for much the same power input, which is becoming a major factor, hence my ditching a P4 box for a much more efficient rig.

The vast majority (~90%) of jobs complete normally but get marked Inconclusive and then Invalid. It's been that way since last August.
