I had to reinstall Boinc en World Community Grid due to a fatal crash of my harddisk.
----------------------------------------Now I get the message if I can resend a result because the result is lost. I can't do this. How can I tell World Community Grid that i'm not able to comply? I'm working with Linux, Fedora 15 and the Boinc-version is 6.10.58 Thanks. Liddy [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 28, 2011 6:02:47 PM] |

Liddy, this should not be a problem. Go into the "advanced" display of the boinc manager and in the "task manager" tab. Check that you have one or more tasks with "running" status or " ready to start" . Normally you can ignore the message and the WCG servers should be able to take care of that.

Not quite enough detail to tell what is happening here but this symptom is common in 64 bit Linux installations. If you're repeatedly getting the resending lost result message and your client is not doing any work, you probably need to install the ia32-libs package.

Thanks.
----------------------------------------My old computer (2006) was 32 bits and boinc was no problem. Lots of work passed my computer. Unfortunetely my harddisk crashed, yes, I have a backup of the most importants files. My 'new' computer (2009) is 64 bits and from the beginning boinc is a problem. I downloaded the boinc 64bits with yum and logged in with my old account. Prompt the computer complained that the 'app version has unsupported platform i386-pc-linux-gnu' and 'No application found for task i386-pc-linux-gnu 640; discarding' Reading on the internet made me make a 'cc_config.xml' in '/var/lib/boinc' with the following lines: <cc_config> <log_flags> <task>1</task> <file_xfer>1</file_xfer> <sched_ops>1</sched_ops> <checkpoint_debug>1</checkpoint_debug> </log_flags> <options> <alt_platform>x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</alt_platform> </options> </cc_config> And I made a new account with World Community Grid. I stopped the boinc-client and restarted and still boinc is complaining as I listed above and I'am getting no new work. So my fear is that if I change to the 32bits version, boinc will be still complaining. Please can you help me. If you need more details, just ask me. Thanks, Liddy (I'am from the Netherlands, if you think my English is bit akward. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 28, 2011 9:18:34 PM] |

Try installing the 32 bit libraries and I'm certain your problem will go away. They don't come as a default in 64 bit installations and BOINC needs them to run properly.

Yes, installing the 32 bit libraries did the trick.
I removed the 64 bit version of boinc, then I installed the 32 bit boinc version with yum so that the necessary libs automatically were installed. Next I removed only the 32 bit boinc version (in this way the 32 bits libs didn't get removed) and then reinstalled the 64 bit boinc version again. I'am so glad that you told me what was wrong. Now I finally can tribute again. Thanks very much. greetings, Liddy |

adri-lidwien3, Welcome to WCG!
Good to know your concern was resolved in your favor. You may want to edit the title in your OP (original post) to insert "[RESOLVED]" without the quotes as per usual practice here at WCG. Thanks ; |
