Dear all at WCG,
I was in the States for a couple of weeks and took my laptop with me. Unfortunately I did not have access to the internet all the time. So the laptop run without working on any work unit during idle time after all tasks had been finished. I suggest to get a chance to actively download tasks and work units if it is foreseeable that there might be some time without contact to the internet. All the best and a Happy New Year Klaus |

You can already do this
----------------------------------------Go to Advanced-preferences-network usage-additional work buffer-choose the number of days you want to cache work ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

This setting is indeed interesting when you know the computer/laptop/device will be activated but offline for some time.
----------------------------------------When reconnected to a 24/7 internet connection, in my opinion it is advisable to set the cache back to minimal. In my case, minimal is 0,01 days for almost all my devices. When a hiccup occurs in WU length or "power on time", you may have a batch of WU's that are returned late causing waste of time on the own device, hurry repair jobs on other devices so also waste of time, and delay for the scientists to get the results. Because of this, in my opinion it is best to refrain from setting the cache to the maximum 10 days any time and use the cache only for what it was originally ment: the "Herr Vossberg" situation. WCG software romances the fast returners with Beta and DDDT2 (A&B) WU presents... [Edit: This text is ment for normal use, and to continue the set&forget idea. Many people micromanage the cache to obtain certain goals with projects. This given is not addressed in this post.] [Edit 1 times, last edit by rembertw at Dec 29, 2011 7:08:07 AM] |

Good suggestions... I usually keep the cache at 0.5 days (so far, luckily, I haven't run into any problematic WUs). So far it's worked for me.
