BOINC doesn't connect too local host. All pages in boinc manager are blank. My computer has an intel I7 and AMD Raedon HD 68 series card. I have just updated the software and drivers for the AMD card, and this was the first restart after that update. Does anyone have any suggestion for what I should do?

Restart the system.
If Boinc does not connect to local host again, reinstall Boinc. |

I have the same issue on a desktop running Fedora 16. I've restarted the software but it never starts any projects, doesn't connect to local host when I run the manager and ignores my CPU usage settings. I haven't gone so far as to re-install the software, but rebooting the system isn't the way things are done under Linux and almost never solves anything.

I restored my computer to a point before I installed the update AMD card. Then everything with BOINC works ok, but all the work in progress was destroyed.
----------------------------------------Now I have reinstalled the driver update on the AMD card and will try too reinstall the BOINC software if it's not working after restart. |

I have the same issue on a desktop running Fedora 16. Disable the firewall... i.e. open a terminal, run $ su - enter the root password, then run # system-config-firewall Click the red Disable button on its toolbar, then Apply and Yes to the prompt. Next, put SELinux in Permissive mode... # system-config-selinux In the Status section, set the System Default Enforcing Mode and Current Enforcing Mode to Permissive. This state is NOT secure, but it should get 6.12.35 (the version in fc16's repo) working... assuming you've already jumped through the hoops of getting the client to actually start up, make anything besides the lockfile in /var/lib/boinc, and talk to the manager. Once BOINC's running, then you can enable the Firewall again and start poking holes in it. So far, I've made 6 custom targeted policies for mine but still haven't found everything needed to make SELinux let it work as it should... I ran out of time yesterday and just disabled the Firewall and SELinux until I can get back to it (it's in a remote location and I have yet to master doing it all strictly via PuTTY on SSH). I wish the maintainer for that redhat package would stop at the 'recommended' versions instead of simply compiling the lastest source on a monthly basis, then pushing it out of the 'testing' repo 2 weeks later whether it has any feedback or not... but using the RPMs is still simpler than having to download 100MB of source and compile it yourself. |

but using the RPMs is still simpler than having to download 100MB of source and compile it yourself. Just download the tarball from Berkley and install from there. No compiling, only a few meg and you can pick which version you want (though you have to tweak the download URL for that bit). ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |
