Hi, so I recently started using this/contributing. My computer has been running for 3 days, I can check the 'messages' tab and see that tasks are completing and I can seein the 'tasks' tab that work is getting done, but when I check the 'statistics' tab (or the website) I have no statistics; everything is listed as '0'. Any ideas why this is?

Welcome to the forum.
----------------------------------------Have you sent the results back; uploaded and reported? From the projects tab in Boinc Manager, select World Community Grid and click Update. After you do this wait until the next server update (twice daily). Good luck, [Edit 1 times, last edit by skgiven at Dec 16, 2011 10:25:21 PM] |

Have the results that you have returned, validated?

Whenever I add a computer to WCG, I give it a week before I start seeing results showing up on the stats. The cycle that the task goes through is....
----------------------------------------1) Install - download tasks to process 2) Tasks process and upload the data. Depending on the computer/settings/task choice, it may take a few days. 3) The tasks report to the database as a bunch. Not individually but when there are a bunch of them. This may take a day or two 4) Tasks wait to be validated. Some tasks only need your result to be valid. Some require 15 copies to compare and contrast and only then are validated. Hence some validate 2 minutes after reporting, some take 10 days or more. 5) Once validated, they show up on your stats during the aforementioned twice daily update. So, I am always patient as the process takes time. It also works the other way too. If a computer is removed from the grid, steps 4 and 5 mean that the computer is still contributing to the stats upto 10 day after it got removed. You can force step 3 by manually updating the client but the rest is a waiting game. We are all in the same boat as you though whenever we add a new computer. I hope that helps. Firstly, welcome to 'The Machine' and the forum MERITHelpdesk.
----------------------------------------With regards to your query, if you go to your My Grid page on the website, then Results Statistics, that page will list all the WU's that have been allocated to your machine. From there, you'll most likely see status' of either; In Progress - your machine hasn't finished/reported them yet, Pending Validation - that WU is awaiting on a 'wingman' to return their copy of the same WU, Valid - as it's name suggests, that WU has been validated and upon the next Stats run (00:00 and 12:00 UTC), they'll get added in, Inconclusive - similar to Pending Validation, Error - if you see these, then come back and we can do some more investigating. Basically, some sciences are classed as Zero Redundancy (FA@H, C4CW, HFCC being three - there are more), where only 1 copy of the WU is sent out. Others have 2 copies sent out to different machines - as the scientists have asked for double validations to ensure that their project is returning validated results, and 1 (HPF2 - due to it's nature), sends out 19 copies - and it's only after the first 15 have been processed and returned, is an attempt made to validate the task. As you're a new member (and this also happens to the rest of us when we add a new machine), ALL your initial WU's will be double checked against someone else's machine, just to ensure that it's producing valid results. Basically, all that people are saying, is give it a couple more days, and then your Stats page shouldn't be showing 0 against the figures. ![]() |

skgiven, I think that'll say Last Result Returned (UTC) Never until his first result has been VALIDATED.
----------------------------------------What we need, is for MERITHelpdesk to come back to us and verify what he's seeing in his Results Status page. ![]() |

Devices, Active Members, Results do not show unless a task was validated. Then the "Last Result Returned" updates with additional results validated, and just verified, only at the top of the hour. So return a result on 16:01 UTC that gets validated immediately, then at 17:01 UTC it will tell that the last result was returned 0 hours ago.
----------------------------------------Yes, it's a probable that in the client under the projects tab a different name shows. On the other hand, if one starts off all jobs are run quorum 2, so a wingman that generally returns withing 48 hours will be the indicated initial maximum delay for first results to show [if valid] At any rate, the thread starter has not come back so it's guessing. --//-- P.S. Starting off with HPF2 will lead to the longest validation time, particular is loaded just before the weekend. All those office machines that get switched off on Friday, not returning until Sunday night on the other side of the planet if they were loaded there. Hey everybody, sorry for the delay, this is a work computer and since its finals week, I haven't been working as much.
So the website statistics all still read as zero. When I click on the tasks tab it shows my current task is at 42.501% and when I click on the messages tab I see things like "reporting 1 completed task" and "restarting task ..." Ideas? need more info? |
