On several occasions HFCC work units on my Mac-Mini have just put BOINC onto a loop (or something that absorbs CPU cycles and no productive work). The percent complete stays the same for days and CPU utilization is high. The time to completion just increments upwards 1 second per second in real time so it appears it will never end. This workstation is dedicated to BOINC. No other user programs are running on it.
I can suspend the task but a BOINC process is still running and absorbing all available CPU cycles. I need to kill that BOINC task and restart BOINC to get things working on the work unit. After doing the above the work unit begins processing again normally where it left off. I am running the latest BOINC agent. My Mac-Mini is the original PowerPC based model so I am limited on which projects it can participate in. If I can't get this resolved I'll try excluding HFCC from my eligible projects. I don't really want to exclude any projects. Any insight appreciated. J |

Hello schmidtj,
I am running the latest BOINC agent. Could you post the startup messages in your Messages tab? I don't have any idea how to help, but I would like to have specifics to wonder about instead of assumptions.Lawrence |

Yes, with my old outdated puters I found the need to exclude HFCC also. I have been watching for someone to say something, went 100 % HCC . Meko

Hello schmidtj,
Thank you for all the information. Meko makes a reasonable case for excluding HFCC. Some recent posts that SekeRob has been handling seem to show that if BOINC runs the CPU at less than 100%, it might cause problems with some projects. Or that might be a superstition. Wish I could come up with a brilliant suggestion, but I need a dim bulb icon to show how I actually feel. Keep on crunching! Lawrence |

Hello schmidtj, I do limit the BOINC agent to 80%. With that limit the internal fan does not run and the Mac stays very quiet. I have excluded HFCC from my projects for now.Thank you for all the information. Meko makes a reasonable case for excluding HFCC.
