This problems occures regularly on my i7. I tried several of the things suggested in the forum but I have given up. Now, when I find a stuck wu, I just abort. In fact, I just abouted two.

Had several stuck WU's on my laptop, all candidates DSFL or GFAM. From BOINC-view it looked like it is simply stopped, the runtime-counter stopped...
To me it looks like a timeout problem with VINA-based-apps and older or less powerful processors (ATOM etc.), so the system puts the priority down. In the past I restarted the whole computer, this is probably not needed. My solution now if that happens: Go into taskmanager, click on the processes-tab and sort the list by clicking on the CPU-tab. At the lower end you'll find a wcg-process with no visible activity, a frozen one. Kill that process, shortly after that BOINC reactivates the task, probably at the last checkpoint. In this way you don't loose the whole task. All of them finished after that without problems here, all with valid results. |

Hi mikey159b,
I've noticed the same thing with my Linux computer. Sometimes I just have to exit and then re-start BOINC, while other times I have to exit BOINC and then restart my computer. That's always done the trick for me. Have a very happy New Year! Best wishes, Dr. Alex L. Perryman |

This works for me on Win XP. On other operating systems it could result in a different way, in a calculation error or whatever. Simply try, all without guarantee...
