Just upgraded to a new MacBook Pro running system 10.7.2 w/Intel processor. The old BOINC software began having chronic problems - wouldn't let the system shut down, hangs up at random, etc.
I uninstalled it and was planning to download another version of the software...but I note that the system requirements as listed on the Mac software appear to be based on the PowerPC processors. I see trouble ahead; processor conflicts have been a minor but fairly frequent occurrence as I've gotten my new machine up to speed. Thoughts? |

The Download web page says "PowerPC, x86", so I don't see any problems there...

Thoughts? When you go here http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/SETI%40home and click on download on the left what does it come up with? It is designed to come up with the best released version of the Boinc software for your pc. This excludes the Alpha and Beta test versions but if you click on 'all versions' on the download page that comes up you can see all the different Boinc versions available. Boinc is put out by Dr. David Anderson of Seti but the newest version is NOT always the one that is tested and certified for WCG crunching. I have not had any problems with non certified versions but others have said they have. If you ONLY crunch for WCG, there are a TON of other Boinc Projects available, I recommend you ONLY use the WCG certified versions. They are avialable here http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/index.jsp by clicking on the download link. Again it picks the best one for your pc but you can see other versions if you click the link that comes up. ![]() ![]() |
