Thanks for more information Punchy. I'm Ok with it. It just didn't look right from what was viewable to me at Boinc Stats, so I asked so that if there was an issue with points impropriety, it could be handled by us and not brought up by another team later ;)
----------------------------------------Now that the situation is squarely above reproach, hope Mike047 is planning on staying here... Or at least forgets in case he was planning to switch. Boinc team switching must be handled by individual projects as some join and points follow to our Boinc combined team score (at least in some projects). I don't even wanna attempt to figure out how it works. lol Our team is young and immensely upwardly mobile. Don't wanna see any happen to tarnish that. Never once did I think it would have been an "inside job". lol Just thought that maybe [H] or someone was hearing our footsteps on this side. 10 more good ole EVGA gtx570's (or so) and they couldn't ignore the noise we'd be making. lol [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 16, 2012 9:13:38 PM] |

Would, soon to be (two months tops) 670's be kosher? ;)

If I have a choice between 2 or three. Hmmmmm, 3's better. I think I heard GPUGrid is ready for the 6xx's, but don't know of any others. I think Collatz is pretty good for anything you have currently. This place is "crazy wild" for GPU's. 180K for a 460 and a 465 on collatz. ~180K each for 570's at GPUGrid on long runs. It's like 10X what Pande used to allow me for all my electricity outlay.
Boinc is like a GPU Jackpot :) Definitely a pleasant change of pace. You do realize that 10 different mates with one each would be just as good as 3 mates with 3 each? lol. OOps one would need 4 :) |

I think the GPU projects are a bit better optimized to get to the GPU flops better here at Boinc. I'm just happy to be able to just run stock clocks and still be able to trip all over the "thank you" awards. Probably saving a ton on Central air costs as well. Almost have to wear a sweatshirt in my basement operations center again. lol.
CPU's not so much love but WCG has great projects that I can choose from and even at 4.4 on my 990X, temps stay under 70C while running all 12 cores. Plus all teams we're up against have the same playing field with WCG. |

so what, where and how do I get my gtx 550 running? I only have dealt with GPUGRID, Collatz and very recently (today) Primegrid. 1st one mentioned is biomedicalish, last 2 are Mathish. If you don't have a burning desire to do Bio stuff, Collatz or Primegrid seem more suited to my 460 and 465. If you would decide on GRUGrid, dont choose long run projects with a 550. Lots of failed runs at longs with even 560TI's. Also I had problems with GPUGrid with unlike cards on long runs (570 and 460 768M). Bought another EVGA 570 SSC to match and not an issue since. |

Just go to thetools tab under your boinc manager and choose the "add project" option. A box will come up and choose "add project" (should be default) then click next. A drop-down list will be there. Scroll down to your project of choice and click it. Click <next>.
From there you should go to the project and enroll. Use the same EMail addy and password as your manager to register;) Each project can be a bit different once in. I use 10 for my GPUs for resource share, though I doubt it really matters. GPU's don't adversely affect CPU performance and you won't need to leave any cores idle here running WCG. If you have any questions when setting it up, I'll be around for a bit as I'm Trying to work the bugs out with Primegrid. Post back and I'll do what I can to get you through it. JUST don't forget to choose a team as it's not automatic. I learned that the hard way. Give it a go, that 550 should be at least what my 460 1024M card gets. No need to OC either. Just get it rocking, sit back and "love the love" you'll be feeing when you wake up tommorrow and check your stats. lol |

Also.... I'd like to suggest that any mate considering activating idle GPUs here, choose Primegrid as your learning curve since there's a Challenge coming up and I think that GPU's can run the subproject ;)
Also, you do not have to run any CPU core there to run your GPU's. Just GPU's don't have access to all projects from what I've been able to gather so far. My 980X rig is chugging along fine there with the GPU's and all 12 cores are WCGing without any hit that I've noticed so far. Of course it's only been 6 hours or so. |
